Dream Lab: Pioneering AI-Powered Government Exhibition
Transforming Urban Planning Engagement Through Interactive AI
The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) needed to launch Singapore's Draft Master Plan 2025 with unprecedented public engagement, moving beyond traditional passive exhibitions to enable real-time citizen feedback and co-creation. With only 27 days from project kickoff to a fixed VIP and press launch date for this SG60 signature event, I led the design of Singapore's pioneering AI-powered government exhibition that would make complex urban planning concepts accessible to all demographics.
I spearheaded the project from winning proposal to launch, leading a cross-functional team to create three interactive modes: individual creation where citizens reimagine areas using AI prompts from different personas, collaborative co-creation where groups contribute ideas and vote on AI-generated options, and discover mode where visitors explore everyone's creations. The core innovation reveals planning trade-offs in real-time, showing how one person's vision impacts others and fostering empathy in urban planning decisions.
The exhibition successfully launched on schedule, transforming government engagement from passive viewing to active co-creation. When initial user testing revealed flaws in the co-create mode, we implemented a three-choice voting system overnight, completely transforming the collaborative experience. This demonstrated our ability to move mountains under pressure, combining research insights with stakeholder feedback to redesign core functionality within 24 hours and deliver breakthrough results. The success continues with a planned rowing exhibition across Singapore to reach broader audiences.
